An Indian man has been caught allegedly smuggling millions of dollars of
marijuana from Canada to the United States.
This is the third Indian arrested for smuggling in last month.
Authorities said on Monday that 26-year-old Prabjot Nagra was
caught bringing 4,294 kilograms of marijuana worth $ 20 million in a
commercial truck across the Peace Bridge connecting the two countries
near Niagara Falls.
Customs and border security officials have seized several tons of illegal
substances for the third time in past weeks, said James Kennedy, a federal
prosecutor for western New York. According to the accused, 21-year-old
Arshadip Singh was arrested
on 5th June while smuggling 816 kg of marijuana for $ 2.5 million and 30-year-old
Gurpreet Singh on June 13 while smuggling 1,517 kg of marijuana for $ 5
million.
Officials said that like Nagra, they too are Indian nationals and were also
caught near Niagara Falls.
Nagra and Gurpreet Singh could be sentenced to
10 years in prison and Arshadip Singh for 5 years for allegedly smuggling
large amounts.
